Honouring our senior citizens

The Seva Club of Chinmaya Vishwa vidyapeeth (CVV) along with the students of EGCS and PPSH department in collaboration with Pampakuda Grama Panchayath successfully organized Oormakal: Celebrating the Pillars of Strength, a heartfelt initiative to honor the senior citizens of Pampakuda Grama Panchayath. The event, held at CVV, aimed to provide the elderly with a day filled with joy, engagement, and appreciation, while also offering students a valuable opportunity to connect with and learn from them.

Students picked up the elderly guests from their respective locations using the university bus, and they arrived at the CVV campus by 10:15 AM. Upon arrival, they were warmly greeted and offered refreshments, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for the day ahead.

The cultural segment commenced at 10:30 AM, featuring a variety of performances and activities that entertained and engaged both the senior citizens and students. The lineup of events included:

  • Flute Performance by Arun (B.Ed. Semester 6 student) and Jishnu (Lab assistant)
  • Self-Introduction by Senior Citizens – Each elderly guest introduced themselves, sharing their experiences and reflections
  • A captivating dance showcased by Lekshmi Krishna and Jayalakshmi
  • A melodious song performed by Lekshmi Priya and Sneha
  • A mesmerizing classical dance by Meghna Varma
  • A group dance presented by Samana, Shreya, Lekshmi Prabha, Sreelekshmi, Harimahima, and Namitha.
  • Arun and Jishnu Sir returned for another beautiful flute session.
  • A group song was presented by students of the PPSH.
  • The first game organized was ‘Sundharikku Pott Thodu’ – A fun and engaging game that  required the elderly to put a pottu on the lady blind folded. The participant who put the pottu closest won a prize. This encouraged participation and enthusiasm from the elderly.
  • Akshara, Lekshmi Priya, Maya, Sneha, Krishna Sreejith, and Anitta Biju gave a special spot performance
  • The second game was ‘Paper Cup Knock Down’ – Another game that added excitement and laughter to the event.
  • Another lively dance performance was delivered by Abhirami K from PPSH.

Many elderly guests enthusiastically sang songs in between the scheduled programs making the program more active, lively and energetic
